MELIDIA: Wrap Skirt "La Spaggettata" 70's tablecloth - One size
Vintage Tablecloth Skirts: One-of-a-Kind Wrap Skirts
Introducing our exquisite collection of skirts made from carefully selected vintage and antique tablecloths, each with its own unique story. Designed to celebrate the beauty of timeless craftsmanship, these skirts are more than just garments—they are wearable pieces of nostalgia, crafted using only preloved materials (with the exception of new elastic).
The Story Behind the Garment
This unique piece began its journey through a conversation with Susan, a brand agent at Max Mara. Susan, known for her exquisite taste in collecting vintage textiles, sent me a few rare tablecloths that hadn't yet been listed online. Knowing my penchant for playful and vibrant textiles, she included a delightful Italian 70’s tablecloth featuring an Arrabbiata pasta recipe with vibrant illustrations of raw ingredients like tomatoes and red peppers. The intricate red-bordered embroidery stitch framing the entire piece particularly caught my attention.
When I received the tablecloth back to April 23, I was enchanted by its vibrant patterns and Susan's passion for preserving such beautiful textiles. I knew immediately that I wanted to give this fabric a new lease of life, transforming it into something wearable and timeless.
Back in our studio, I was captivated by the vibrant colors and the Italiasn nostalgia embedded in the 70’s finding. I envisioned a one-of-a-kind skirt that would blend the vintage charm of the tablecloth with modern elegance. I wanted to create a design that fits more body types, so I decided on a one-size wrap skirt, letting the raw textiles determine the sizes. After several days of careful planning, I decided to incorporate pleats—a detail I love to work with, as seen in our Olea salopette pants. Pleats add a touch of sophistication and enhance the fabric's natural drape.
I named this skirt version Melidia, as both my daughters, Melina and Lydia, approved the design and even asked for some for themselves! :)

The Final Design
Our Melidia wrap design features two sets of ties that adjust to fit a range of body types from XS to Large, ensuring ease in size selection and providing a comfortable, flattering fit for all. One set of ties, approximately 1.40 meters in length, wraps around your waist to secure the garment in place. The other set of ties which come around the hip area, each approximately 38-40 cm long, adds versatility and allows for further customization.
Additionally, the waistband is elasticated on the back side only, enhancing both comfort and flexibility.
The front half of each skirt is adorned with meticulously crafted pleats, featuring seven large pleats that create a chic and draping effect, enhancing the overall elegance of the piece. These pleats add a sophisticated touch, resulting in a beautiful, flowing silhouette. Dual front darts on the other part of the skirt provide a flattering shape.
This skirt is thoughtfully designed to highlight the unique details of the original tablecloth, incorporating its entire receipt into the design to preserve its beauty and taste. The wrap style not only offers adjustable comfort but also adds a touch of effortless elegance to your wardrobe.
Perfect for pairing with your favorite tops and shirts, this skirt offers a playful and stylish look for spring and summer.

The Story Behind the Garment
How to wear it.
To wear the skirt, slide the tie through the buttonhole on the upper edge of the fabric. Pull the right corner tie through the buttonhole and keep it taut. Wrap the left corner around your body until it reaches the buttonhole, then tie both ties together into a single bow. Adjust the skirt for a comfortable fit; it should rest snugly against your waist or hips without pinching or feeling loose. If necessary, untie and readjust until you achieve the perfect fit.

Back in our studio, I envisioned a one-of-a-kind skirt that blends vintage charm with modern elegance. I spent several days planning a design that would fit a range of body types, ultimately creating a one-size wrap skirt. Incorporating pleats, a detail I love to work with, added sophistication and enhanced the fabric's natural drape.
The Melidia skirt, named after my daughters Melina and Lydia who approved the design, features two sets of adjustable ties and an elasticated back waistband to ensure a comfortable fit for sizes XS to Large. Meticulously crafted pleats on the front add a chic, flowing silhouette. Perfect for pairing with your favorite tops, this skirt combines timeless charm with contemporary flair, making it a versatile and stylish addition to your wardrobe.
The result is a one-of-a-kind, wearable art piece that I am incredibly proud of. The abstract pleats and the intricate pocket detail create a beautiful, flowing silhouette.
Reworked with love in our new studio, this garment is a testament to the timeless beauty of vintage craftsmanship and modern creativity.
