The Story Behind the Garment

This unique piece started with an Effegi man’s shirt I handpicked at Amsterdam's Saturday vintage market. Paired with a delicate antique placemat from Rognac, France, once owned by Catherine and her mother, both treasures shared beautiful yellow hues. Inspired by these finds, I reworked the shirt in our new studio in Amsterdam, adding delicate pleats to the left front and transforming the placemat into a charming patchworked pocket. The result is a one-of-a-kind garment, blending timeless vintage elements with modern creativity. You can check out the full story of the design further down the page, along with the before and after process.

The Final Design

This long asymmetric button-down shirt features a structured collar and a full-length button placket. Crafted with delicate pleats on the left front, it creates a graceful drape. The Story Behind the Garment

This unique piece began its journey at the bustling Saturday vintage market in Amsterdam during 2023, where I handpicked an exquisite Effegi brand shirt made in Italy. The shirt, with its soft yellow shades, immediately caught my eye.

My next treasure was a beautiful antique placemat from Rognac, France. The placemat, also adorned in yellow hues, was part of a set belonging to Catherine, a lovely woman who shared stories of her mother’s beloved linens. The smaller placemat, intricately embroidered with red berries and bordered with antique handmade lace, inspired me deeply.

For a couple of days, I envisioned how these two elements could come together in harmony. Then, the idea was born: incorporating pleats throughout the design. I crafted delicate pleats on the left front of the shirt, creating a graceful drape. The cherished placemat was transformed into a charming patchworked pocket, complete with tiny pleats to complement the shirt's design.

The result is a one-of-a-kind, wearable art piece that I am incredibly proud of. The abstract pleats and the intricate pocket detail create a beautiful, flowing silhouette.

Reworked with love in our new studio, this garment is a testament to the timeless beauty of vintage craftsmanship and modern creativity.
