Behind the Craft: The Making of the BLUE STRIPES one-off Jacket

Be part of its journey From Blanket to Beauty —scroll down to explore its making and see how it was brought to life

The Story Behind Your Jacket

This two-sided, blue light-striped sleeping bag blanket found its way to our collection in 2023, along with a tablecloth sourced from Paris in the same year. Both textiles were made in France. After a careful wash, the transformation began from February 7th to 9th, 2025, with design, cutting, insulation replacement (with a thinner one), and quilting, along with the tablecloth being worked from scratch. The trims were also created from scratch, and pocket placement was carefully considered. Final touches, including the knots, were completed by February 19th, thanks to our dear friend Hildrun, who shared her idea with us, followed by a photoshoot. Now, this jacket carries over 30+ years of warmth and creativity. Designed and crafted by Katerina, with trims thoughtfully incorporated, every button and knot made was hand-sewn to ensure a perfect finish.

More than just clothing, this is a wearable piece of art—built to last, designed to stand out, and meant to be cherished for years to come.

How It’s Made

Each piece takes over 20 hours to create, involving:

Handcrafted from Start to Finish: Every step from fabric preparation, washing and cutting to sewing and hand-finishing—requires time, skill, and attention to detail.

Preserving the Original Elements: The blanket’s original zipper, trims, and unique texture are thoughtfully incorporated into the design.

No Two Are Alike: The nature of vintage materials means every jacket has its own variations, making each one truly unique.

At Fitol Collections, we celebrate sustainability by giving forgotten textiles a new life. Slight imperfections in the material reflect its history and unique charm. If you value craftsmanship and authenticity, this coat is made for you.  Learn more about our pricing philosophy [here]
